I used to love to eat spicy foods: Thai chili peppers were one of my favorites, but anymore, I can't tolerate mildly spicy, let alone triple XXX heat. So, what am I giving up? Capsaicin (the spice in chili peppers) has a myriad amount of health benefits. It can help with weight loss, provide pain relief, improve your sex life, fight cancer cells (so I read in a Time magazine article), reduce pain, as in osteoarthritis, neuropathy, shingles, etc. And you don't have to consume massive amounts of habanero or chili peppers to experience the benefits. In fact, absolutely do not drink Tabasco, Sriracha or swallow a 1/2 dozen habanero peppers. It can burn and/or cause tissue damage. Capsaicin is sold as a topical ointment and as a herbal supplement, both of which should be on advice of your physician. So, if your tummy can tolerate it, have a drop or two of Sriracha or Tabasco on your burger, eggs, dipping sauce or a splash on your Spring Roll. You'll experience a mood booster (this fiery spice also releases endorphins) and as long as you haven't consumed too much, you should feel happier too.
